Excess: The Suitcase Show Auckland Fringe Festival 09
I was hanging out in Myers Park yesterday with a couple of design kids where we bumped into 4 salubrious looking characters loading 100 suitcases into a van and trailor. What caught our eye was not the sheer volume of baggage but the real oldschool style suitcases sans wheels and ipod pouches.
After a few confusing jokes about excess bagage we figured out that we had come across "Excess: The Suitcase Show" one of the pieces showing in the Auckland Fringe Festival. This piece endevours to transport 100 suitcases down Queen St (BY HAND) with stops made along the way to interact with passersby and create various sculptures. The final destination of this show is Britomart with the group "performing" for 3 hours per day. As tempting as it maybe.. Don't steal their suitcases!
