The internet has been a chatter as Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia heads into day number two today. Here are my musings on Day #1:
The fashion machine is puzzling. When reviewing new season looks we make decisions based on the perceived success (read: commercial viability and editorial potential) of a range and add in our own emotional response. I was bamboozled by some runway presentations on Day #1 of #MBFWA ("Will that actually retail?") but three collections did make their way onto my must-start-to-put-pennies-aside-for-list and they are: Romance Was Born, Gary Begini and Gail Sorronda.

Romance Was Born made me feel like there is hope for planet Earth. There is so much happiness in this Spring/Summer collection! I watched with baited breath the live stream of the runway show via Twitter (thank you tweeps for kindly taking instagrams and twitpics).

I squealed with delight when I saw the range of colour, shape, texture and pattern in this collection telling the story of the comic book hero. All of these factors sewn together have created visually spectacular creations with an undeniable Romance Was Born signature. These pieces are zealously outrageous and will (should?) become collectors items!

Gary Begini's Spring/Summer '12/'13 collection featured a range of blue hues that fall between Skype blue and royal blue. The integration of these sky tones with marigold, mustard, mushroom and black has created a colour story that is bold, sparse and strangely summery. I am a fan of the knitted pieces in this range.
And of course I am a fan of the man himself! I wish I had the courage to look as fabulous as him every day *:-)

Gail Sorronda's Spring/Summer '12/'13 collection is fun! This range is the first trans-seasonal collection by Gail Sorronda and I think she nailed the task by capturing a sense of playfulness with a range of separates and dresses. The colour platte of rich green, bright magenta, canary yellow, primary red and rainbow polka dots is definitely my cup of tea!
I'll do a run down on the looks I think are the most noteworthy each day of MBFWA and in the meantime remember to follow my friends who are in Sydney covering the runway in real time *:-)
