SOLIPSIST from Andrew Huang on Vimeo.

This short film entitled SOLIPSIST makes me so happy!

This film captures what my dreams look like. Both the kind experienced during sleep and the kind I want my future to look like.

Enjoy!

Google Goggles just changed my life!

I'm a little slow on the uptake but today I downloaded Google Goggles for my Android and it has been the ultimate distraction. The basic concept is visual google-ing. Amazing!

Google Goggles are a step towards Google Glasses which will be an interactive pair of glasses that the user wears while navigating life and experiencing an electronic reality. Read all about Google Glasses here. So far today I have Google Goggled book titles, fashion photos, business cards, brand logos and attempted to search for the Sky Tower (but the sun distorted my photo). Next level intense.

Taking "Let me Google that for you" to the next level!

Go Water < Less with Levi's and Water.Org

Last Tuesday was World Water Day and Levi's have got on board in challenging denim wearers around the world to evaluate the way they care for their garments and the amount of water used in our day to day lives.  Did you know that 1 billion people around the world don't have access to clean drinking water? Levi's and Water.Org have partnered to find solutions.

I'm always a bit nervous when a cotton garment claims environmental kudos as farming of cotton has  destroyed ecosystems and continues to be used in garments that experiences low life. I like that this Levis campaign doesn't claim to have all the answers but challenges consumers to think about the impact our actions have on the planet.

You can get involved in this campaign by signing up for one of the Go Waterby clicking here and join the conversation on Twitter here.

NOM*d + Rebecca O’Brien say DO NOT DISTURB!

OHMY! Have you seen the collaboration between NOM*d and film maker Rebecca O'Brien entitled "Do Not Disturb"? This short film is intense. I recommend watching it during daylight! Super kudos to NOM*d and Rebecca O'Brien (and their teams) for taking on such a task. I love to see clothing presented in mediums far from the runway. Also, how amazing to see Margi Robertson feature as the cleaning lady in the film? Here is a bit more info about the project:

Trapped in a motel on the edge of nowhere, evil churns and thrashes in a Pandora’s Box of frozen moments. ‘Do Not Disturb’, the AW2012 collection from NOM*d, celebrates this murky, hidden world with a concise collection of oversized layers and intricate contrasts. The film, launched at No Home film festival this year, is an unnerving and dark exploration of this world.

Director Rebecca O’Brien reflects: “Margi originally came to me with the title of this year’s winter collection ‘Do Not Disturb’. My understanding is this was in response to the hard time Mother Nature has been giving the South Island of New Zealand over the last year or so. Margi described a feeling of wanting to hide away to lick their wounds and to be left alone to just get on with things … undisturbed”.

O’Brien drew on these influences, while also being mindful of the unique NOM*d aesthetic. There are nods to Lynch, namely Twin Peaks.

“The association with ‘Do Not Disturb’ and motels is obvious, but I also wanted to create a world of fear and isolation with the consent threat of some great power or evil about to be unleashed at any moment. A foreboding place where malevolence and ruin are ever present,” says O’Brien.

Disturb only if you dare.

You can tune in each weekday around 5:15/5:30pm HERE and hear us have a natter on all things fashion/media/arts/cuture/the environment.

Today we continued plotting with Ben Paul on how we are going to auction off a date with Oliver Rose. Good fun!

Birthday time

Image: The best birthday present ever!

Today is my birthday.  I'm one of those kids who likes to make sure everrrrryone in my life knows about my upcoming born-day-celebrations so that no one awkwardly forgets. Also I really like birthday cards.

The very delicious Anny Ma sent me this love package all the way up from Christchurch and timed the post perfectly for this to arrive today :-) She figured out how to post cupcakes! What a glittertastic delight! I have never seen a birthday card more sparkly, candy coated in as much fairy dust or my name so blinged out. iLike!

After a bit of a messy start to the year I hope that being 24 is kick ass awesome. There are some great human beings in this world who are having some great conversations about fashion and changing the world and I want to be part of this new world of awesome.

Ridiculous amounts of love and aroha to you my dear readers who continue to make my world sparkle. AND BIG LOVE TO ANNY! You can drop her a tweet here and let her know how kind she is *:-)

Introducing SKULL AND BONES

As long time readers will know I love listening to the stories of creative people and finding out what inspires them. This week I got to have a chat with Matt Zwartz from SKULL AND BONES on their NZFF capsule collection and the ethos that powers their work. I am a bit of a fan!

I loved the film that accompanied your NZFF capsule collection! Where did that come from?

One of the points of difference with the SKULL AND BONES is that we're a digital media agency as well. That's allowed us to make videos for every single tee shirt design. We have video horoscopes for the Zodiac range, and short stories for the Perennials. The video that was played at the show on the night was a montage from the 20 or so videos we'd already produced. You can see them all here.

Tell us a little about both your agency and your apparel line? Do they influence each other?

Yes, very much. The agency specialises in digital marketing, and that allows us to do things in the digital space that other fashion labels may not be able to easily afford. Conversely the fashion label allows us to express our brand is a very pure and creative way, free from client imperatives, which in turn adds to the agency's reputation for beautiful work. In the end however, they are really an integrated whole, both being under the banner of SKULL AND BONES.

You say wearing Skull and Bones apparel is about wearing a set of beliefs. In 15 words can you summarize those values?

Excellence in All Things, Attack the Orthodoxy, Loyalty Above All. You can find all ten of our governing principles in the Articles of the SKULL AND BONES, which are here. Check them out! You'll enjoy them.

Who would you give a left arm to see wearing your threads?

Dave Grohl, Johnny Depp, Kate Middleton, Adriana Lima, Brett McKenzie. And Nicky Watson, just for fun.

15 year dream?

To be a globally represented billion dollar empire, and a social and political force!

Check out SKULL AND BONES on Facebook, tumblr, You Tube and over at their online store

The Week That Was

Image via Feminist Riots

1. I started postgraduate study this week! I will spend the next nine months looking at gender performance through clothing in New Zealand. My mind is already exploding with new ways of thinking and creative expressions of these ideas. Wish me luck!

2. New Zealand Fashion Festival was warmly received this week by members of the public, media and bloggerazi. Lots of fun with friends celebrating in-season collections. Did you check out a show, seminar or the Designer Garage Sale? Drop me a Tweet and tell me about it!

3. I've been a little quiet on the internet this week and it makes me anxious.

4. Sticky notes for mac changed my life. Rather than to do lists scattered on little pieces of paper all over my desk now they are stuck all over my computer. Way tidier! #organized

5. Fashion school has restored my faith in Auckland's ability to dress well. Babes.

6. Gaga tickets arrived :) The stress of getting up early and dealing with a crashing website was worth it to be able to hold these four pieces of paper in my hands... I can't believe HRH Lady Gaga will be here in a few months....

7. IT IS MY BIRTHDAY IN 9 DAYS! I need something spectacular to wear in celebration. Next level glitter. All suggestions welcome!

Colden Days by Huffer

Huffer have just released a series of images entitled "Colden Days" with this description:
"A range of offerings that hark back to the days before global warming in an East vs West clash of Collegic meets military inspired clothing."
Auckland is experiencing a "Weather Bomb" this weekend so these images of serene winter looks make me feel happy and excited about the impending colder months.

Check out all of the images over on Huffer's online store.

Get knitting kiddies, winter is on the way!
